We’re taking a closer look at one of our larger projects before the final shipment leaves our facility at the end of July.
This summer, we’re wrapping up a major precast project that includes more than 3 million pounds of concrete across trenches, manholes, and catch basins. Awarded in December 2025, the project moved from design and engineering through production in just seven months, with the final shipment scheduled for the end of July.
The project supports the construction of a crude rail facility at a refinery in West Virginia. Our precast system will help manage large volumes of water and support the facility’s underground infrastructure. Each structure was manufactured with custom pipe openings to accommodate the customer’s layout.
The first phrase of this project consisted of 10 manholes and 10 catch basins.
The next phase of the project was the trench system. This complex section included 50 precast trenches spanning approximately 900 linear feet from east to west and 70 linear feet from north to south. Each trench measured 8 feet by 20 feet, weighing between 45,000 to 60,000 pounds.
A portion of the trench system was designed to be train-rated, meaning it is engineered to withstand the heavy loads of rail traffic passing directly overhead.
The customer also requested a customized connection system to provide additional stability across the full trench run. To accomplish this, our team incorporated bolt pocket connections that securely fasten each section together once installed. This custom feature helps maintain alignment and minimizes movement over time.
